ELGIN
Pocket Watch
Size 6s
Model 2 Grade 216

Holding this very exquisite antique Elgin pocket watch, one feels transported to an earlier time, 1901, to be exact.

This special Elgin pocket watch was made in 1901 by Elgin National Watch Company, serial number 9063142. The movement and dial are housed in a 44.9 mm 14K solid yellow gold case with an 8-point star engraved on the front of the case with a stunning diamond set in the middle. The case was manufactured by Solidarity Watch Case Company, which "specialized in solid gold cases, some with raised gold and diamond ornamentation. All cased were handmade and hand engraved by artisans," -pocketwatchdatabase.com/guide/case-companies/solidarity-watch-case-co

Upon close inspection, we believe the diamond is an old European cut diamond. Old European cut diamonds are the most advanced of the antique cuts, and due to the nature of which they were cut, they do not always have precise cuts, which lends a more natural organic shape, adding to their appeal.

Once opened, the dial is a very smooth white porcelain with beautiful, long blued-steel spade hour and minute hands, and even the sub second hand. The dial is signed simply, Elgin. The hours are black Roman numerals with a black minute track, and the sub second has black Arabic numerals and stick marks.

One the front case which features the diamond is opened, it reveals the dust cover. The inside of the front case is signed Solidarity, 14K, U.S. ASSAY, 140318. The inside of the dust cover is simply marked 140318.

Opening the dust cover reveals a beautiful, 122-year-old movement smoothly ticking away. It is Grade 216, Model 2, Class 75, Size 6s, and 17 jewels. It is not a railroad grade pocket watch, nor has it been adjusted. It features a Breguet hairspring, a plain regulator, quick train, pendant movement setting with a Hunting movement configuration. 3000 of these were produced, beginning at serial number 9063001. The serial number of this movement is 9063142, indicating that this movement was number 141 out of 3000.

This beautiful antique Elgin pocket watch is still running and keeping great time at 122 years old! The case shows minimal wear, which is excellent considering its age.

This beautiful Elgin pocket watch will make an excellent addition to any watch enthusiast's collection.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The condition is pre-owned.

The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
Please review the photos and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
It will be carefully packed.
